Prototype Battery backed SRAM Ram Disc

An interesting oddity. This is a works prototype, probably Gemini but I don’t know for certain. If it was ever released I don’t know it’s part number.

What I do know is that, at that time, it would have cost a lot of money to populate all the sockets on here with static RAM! These appear to be Bytewide sockets (note that they are 2 pins longer than the chips fitted). The wire links will set up the address lines on the ICs depending on what capacity is fitted.

The memory is fitted with a back-up battery, allowing it to retain its content without power and thus behave very much like a disk drive.
